Synology recently announced their own line of SSDs in SATA and NVMe form factors. They say these drives will provide high performance and low latency which are geared toward virtualization workloads, high IO database, and AI/HPC projects.
This is exciting news for home and small business users of Synology NAS devices. SSD cache has been around in Synology DSM for a while and according to Synology its adoption has increased by 2.4 times in 2019. Also, all SSD deployments have increased by 53% at the same time.
The SAT5200 SATA series SSDs can deliver up to 98K/67K sustained 4K random read/write IOPS with minimal performance degradation across the lifespan of the drives according to Synology. These drives also have power-loss and end-to-end data path protection to enhance durability and minimize data corruption.
Their SNV3400 and SNV3500 NVMe series SSDs help with reducing latency and random write performance. Synology says the SNV series SSDs are built to be consistent, provide over 40K IOPS under sustained random write workloads.
These SSDs have integration built right into Synology DiskStation Manager (DSM) which enables lifespan prediction based on actual workloads that provide accurate estimations.
Synology says these SSDs and add-in cards will be available soon through their solution partners and channel networks.
